4 Ways to Wear Coloured Eyeshadow

August 29, 2013 by Sarah Leave a Comment

I always love the bold and dramatic eyeshadow. I follow a few different makeup artists on Instagram and love to see what they come up with and what colour combo’s they choose.
Unfortunately, most of us can’t or are not allowed to wear such looks at work or school. Over the years I have done some things to add that subtle pop of colour. Over the week I filmed four ways I like to add some colour to my everyday makeup.
I’ll explain each look and products used. I will follow it up with the video to show you exactly how to achieve each look.

Green eyeshdow- Pop of colour1.) On the corner
This look I used the e.l.f Cosmetics Mineral Eyeshadow in Outdoorsy. Its a nice evergreen colour. I apologize the picture does not do it justice.
I started by using e.l.f Cosmetics Pressed Mineral Eyeshadow in ‘Beauty Queen’ on the brow bone and ‘Lunch Break’ in the crease.  I used a round shadow brush to make a ‘C’ with Outdoorsy and blended it well with an all over shadow brush.

2.) Purple-reverse smokey eyeUnder Colour
(tee-hee under-cover under-colour)
This look I used The same neutrals in the same way as look 1.
I then used e.l.f Mineral Eyeshadow in ‘Flirty’ on my lower lash line. In order for this to stay I used the N.Y.X Jumbo eye pencil in ‘Milk’ and blended with my finger prior to applying the purple.
As an optional step, you can line your waterline with a purple liner. I used Avon Glimmertick in ‘Plum’

Blue shadow3.) All-Over Lid
This look is probably the easiest, In my opinion. Starting off you want to do the same steps with the neutrals on your brow bone and crease as step one.
Next I used the 120 Color Eyeshadow Palette 2nd Editionby BH Cosmetics. I used the colour on the lower tier, fourth row, second from the bottom. Sorry there are no names.
Once you apply this to your lid make sure to blend it well with the crease shadow.

Aqua eyeliner
4.) All Lined Up
This one is my fave. I absolutely love this colour and love lining my eyes with it.
As with all of these looks start off by applying your neutrals as per step one.
Then I used Get in Line Hook Up Liquid Waterproof Eyeliner by Mark in Deep Aqua to line my eyes.
When Lining my eyes in a colour other than black or brown I tight-line my eyes. I used the Maybelline Gel liner. It is the best I’ve ever used…so far.
Without further adieu, here is the video with a more descriptive explanation on each look.

Grape Gorgeous

I’m going a little out of order with my summer series. Instead of doing all of one fruit inspiration, like I did with just peachy, I’m going to upload out if order.
A little confession, I film a lot of my videos a week in advance. I work like 4 jobs and am crazy busy.
I filmed this grape inspired look on Friday and I had a lot of fun putting colours together. As usual I used my 120 Color Eyeshadow Palette 2nd Edition. They have so many beautiful and vibrant colours. I tend to go natural looking but with purple I wanted to go a bit more dramatic. Out of all the colours I decided to do these colours, seen swatched on my hand

Now that I have the colours I need to figure out my base. I’m all out of primer but I’ve got a few alternatives. I wanted to have a nice base to make the colours stand out and bring out their vibrancy.
I used NYX jumbo eye pencil in both black bean and milk then the third is a purple cream shadow by Mark.

I decided to use BOTH of the NYX pencils as my base. I really like the consistency and wearability they provide. I use the milk one a lot and am always pleased. I decided to use black bean on my lid and milk on the brow bone to the edge of the black.

Since this look is dark I opted out of liner and opted in for falsies. Putting on the falsies did not make the final edit of the video because I epically failed and had to do them twice. Usually I’m pretty good at applying them but that day was not my day.

Of course, with a dramatic eye, I went more neutral and subdued with the lips and cheeks. I went with my go to matte Mark blush in Cameo and a nice pinky lip.
This look would be great for a special night out or for a fun night event.
Here is the video on exactly how to do it

DIY Painted Wall Art

My Pinterest vision turned reality when I found these two blank canvasses in the apartment. I used tape and three colours to make a geometrical pattern. I posted on instagram (@SimplySarahxoxo) and everyone loved it and wanted to know how. I decided to add two small canvasses to make the ‘L’ shaped canvas into a square and film a DIY how to video.
Here it is 🙂
