DIY Reusable baby wipes

March 6, 2019 by Sarah Leave a Comment

When I was pregnant with Mia, Matt and I decided to try and reduce our waste as much as possible. We do cloth diapers and wanted to do reusable wipes as well.

Over time we’ve realized it was easier for us to have disposable wipes in the diaper bag for outings but when we’re at home we use reusables.

They are insanely easy to make and keep at home. We have a special set of cloths set aside for bum wipes and they are not used for any other purpose. [Read more…]

How to save money on groceries

January 25, 2019 by Sarah Leave a Comment

Since Mia was born we decided that I would be a stay at home mom for a year or two. My job is contract work so I didn’t get maternity leave so we were a single income family of three. Moving provinces was also not cheap so we have had to be extra frugal.

Grocery shopping can be overwhelming with kids and since we started feeding Mia solids it took some trial and error to find something that worked for us.

Like I always say, there’s a million right way to do things but here I’ll show you what worked for our family. [Read more…]

February 16, 2016 by Sarah Leave a Comment

I’m so excited for the McAwesomes wedding in July! It’s coming up so fast and I can’t believe I’m the bride!!!!!!

Matt and I have decided to DIY a lot of our wedding. Our stationary being one of them. It took forever but we ended up finding the perfect set of flowers and some fonts to use. We designed them and were surprised that we actually made them look so cute.  [Read more…]

DIY Dry Shampoo

March 4, 2014 by Sarah Leave a Comment

Dry Shampoo has been coming out of the woodwork recently.
As a hairstylist I would always hear of such a product but never have actually tried it because it was so hard to find. The closest I got to this sort of thing was the KMS Makeover Spray which was pretty darn awesome. I did not consider this a dry shampoo but I guess it did everything a dry shampoo did so it could have been in that category.
A few years later, versions of dry shampoo started to pop up in aerosol spray containers. I am not too keen on spending lots of money on aerosols although I’m no saint, 1 bottle of hairspray is sitting in my drawer as we speak.

I like to limit my garbage or come up with different solutions for all these types of things so I started my search for dry shampoo on google.
There were lots of options to try out, corn starch and baby powder being among the most popular. I decided to give it a try.

Oh boy! Was that ever a bad idea!

I have brown hair, I looked like I had grey hair and had 1 inch of roots! It was so horrendous I immidently had to wash my hair.

It was about a year since this experience that I decided to try out a different recipe. I searched pinterest and google and saw that you could use cocoa powder to blend in with brown hair. This is genius! I wish I could credit this person but Im not sure who came up with it first.
It took a few tries to get the formula just right in order to come up with the exact proportions to blend into my medium brown hair colour. I finally did it and I’d love to share with all the brunettes out there how to get dry shampoo that actually works! Plus, its cheaper than that aerosol stuff 🙂
